You need a US bank account to take Stripe payments, receive wires and run your LLC. The fastest route there is to skip formation entirely: buy a ready-made Wyoming LLC that already has its EIN, transferred into your name within 24 hours, so you can apply to Mercury, Relay or Wise today. This guide shows you exactly which banks accept non-residents and how to get approved.

A US bank account is not optional — it is the entire reason most non-residents form a US LLC. Without one, your LLC cannot:
The sequence is always: LLC first, EIN second, bank account third, payment processor fourth. You cannot skip steps — which is exactly why a ready-made LLC with its EIN already in place saves you the longest part of the queue.
Traditional banks (Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo) generally require an in-person visit to a US branch, making them impractical for non-residents. Neobanks are the solution — they offer remote account opening with varying levels of non-resident friendliness.

Mercury is the most popular banking choice for non-resident LLC owners, particularly those in tech, SaaS, and e-commerce. It offers a clean interface, powerful API integrations, and features designed for startups.
Pros:
Cons:
Relay is less well-known than Mercury but has strong approval rates for non-residents. It is particularly good for service-based businesses and freelancers.

Cons:
Wise Business (formerly TransferWise) is the easiest option for non-residents to get approved. It provides US account details through a partner bank and excels at international transfers.

Cons:
Regardless of which bank you choose, have these documents ready before applying. If you buy a ready-made LLC from us, every one of these is handed over signed and complete on transfer:
A virtual office gives your LLC a real commercial address (not a PO Box, not a registered agent address). This is necessary for Mercury and recommended for all banks.
Choose an address in your LLC's state of formation if possible, though this is not strictly required. A Wyoming LLC can have a virtual office in New York.
Fix: Get a virtual office address ($10-30/month) and reapply. This is the number one reason for Mercury rejections.
Fix: If your business involves cryptocurrency, adult content, gambling, or firearms, most neobanks will decline. You may need a specialized high-risk merchant bank. For borderline cases, provide a detailed business description emphasizing the legitimate aspects of your business.
Fix: Make sure your Articles of Organization, EIN letter, Operating Agreement, and passport are all uploaded clearly. Blurry photos or missing pages cause rejections. Upload high-resolution scans, not phone photos.
Fix: Some banks restrict applications from countries under OFAC sanctions (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc.). For non-sanctioned countries that still get flagged (sometimes Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria), try a different bank. Wise has the broadest country acceptance.
Fix: "Online business" or "consulting" is too vague. Be specific: "I provide web design services to small businesses in the United States and United Kingdom. Clients pay via bank transfer or credit card. Average transaction is $2,000-5,000." Specific descriptions pass KYC more easily.
Fix: Your name on the bank application must match your passport exactly. Your LLC name must match the Articles of Organization exactly. Your EIN must match the LLC name. Any inconsistency triggers manual review or rejection.
A ready-made Wyoming LLC already has its EIN and a full document pack — transferred to you within 24 hours, so you can start a Mercury, Relay or Wise application today. Prefer a brand-new registration in your exact name? That's $549.
Once your US bank account is open, you can connect payment processors:
Sign up at stripe.com using your LLC name, EIN, and US bank account details. Stripe will verify your bank account with two micro-deposits (takes 1-2 business days). Once verified, you can accept credit card payments from anywhere in the world through your US Stripe account.
Create a PayPal Business account using your LLC's EIN and US bank account. PayPal may ask for additional verification documents. Once approved, you can receive payments in USD and access PayPal's full feature set.
With a US LLC, EIN, and bank account, you can also sign up for: Square, Braintree, Authorize.net, Shopify Payments, and most other US-based payment processors that may not be available in your home country.
Stripe's terms of service require that you have a genuine business with actual customers. Creating a US LLC solely to resell Stripe access to others, or to process payments for businesses that Stripe has declined, violates their terms and will result in account termination.
